Gendut is a film in 2015 producer by Aris Prasetyo and directed by Eko Junianto. Gendut is a short film nomination for National Health Day competition held by the Indonesian Ministry of Health. The film cast by Aji and Nurrokhim.
The story begins when Aji a junior high school student 4 Satu Atap Karangmoncol which is being mirrored in house room. Aji has weight over size therefore, he feel insecure. He was always ridiculed by his school friends for being fat. He was upset , and finally he decided to go on diet. Unknowledge to his parents, Aji went bought the medicine at a price of Rp.2000,00. After he went home and took the medicine, after a while he got the effect. He lost 1 kg , really glad that Aji saw him. Then he work it in the calender.
But the next day, he had diarrhea continuously so he had to go back and forth to the toilet. Feeling unsatisfied, he finally returned to the store and complined with the seller. But the seller said that it was only the effect of the medicine being reacted. The seller instead offered a medicine which he thought was more afficacious. Initially Aji refused, but finally interested and decided to buy it accompanied by medicine that he boguht before. After that, he sat in his chair and mix the two medicine and then drink it.
He then walked to his room while eating snacks that he brought with a jar. When he got to his room, he weighed back his weight and it turns out the medicine reacts immediately. His weight which was originally 82 kg and then reduced to 79 kg. He looked in his room and held his stomach because he was satisfied with the results of the medicine. He wrote the results on a calendar as usual. But after that, he felt dizzy and then his body fell into the bed behind him and made the snacks he brought fell on the floor.
It is a story about a male student who has a big weight and has always been a bully of his friends. He wants to lose weight in an instant way. This film criticizes how small shops sell medicine without knowing the dosage or effects arising from the medicine they sell. That is a dangerous thing for consumers.
Even though the scene was just monotonous in those places, Aji had successfully played a role as a student who lacked confidence due to being overweight. In the film, Tangguh Al Fatah also tries to introduce Javanese language to the audience.
Overall, the short film Gendut is an extraordinary film. This film depicts the natural scenery of the village which is still cool and shady. The addition of flute music to the soundtrack of this film adds to the uniqueness of rural areas.
