The Review of Gendut | Elisa Fitria Ningsih & Trianingsih

"Gendut" is a 2016 short drama film directed by Eko Junianto and produced by Aris Prasetyo. The film cast Aji as the main lead and Wildan, Nurokhim, Feri, Trismo, Ipin, Decha, Ni Mahin, Ni Lufi, and Harun as the supporting leads. The film was contested at a film festival held by the Ministry of Health in 2016. The film takes the theme of health especially about diet.

The story begins when Aji, the student  of SMP N 4 Satu Atap, was told by his father that he was getting fatter. He also realized it and he wanted to lose weight. Then he tried to lose weight by taking medicine purchased from a stall near his home. He took the medicine he bought but he continued to consume food excessively and was not followed by exercise.

The day after he took the medicine, the medicine reacts with the side effects of diarrhea. He kept getting stomachaches and going to the toilet before going to school and when he was at school. After school, he goes to a stall that sells medicine he drinks and complains to the seller that the medicine he bought makes stomachache. But the seller only responds by saying that the medicine is reacting. But Aji still refute what the seller said. Then the seller offers another medicine which he says is more effective. The medicine is in the form of powde. It must be consumed by mixing the tablets he bought before so that the medicine reacts well. He  also bought it at a very cheap price.

Aji took the medicine according to what the seller said. After he took the medicine, then he weighed his weight. He lost weight and he wrote it down on a calendar hanging on the wall of his room. When he wrote his weight, suddenly his vision blurred and he fainted. Aji was brought by his family to get help.

This film teaches us that if we want to do something we must also know what the consequences are of that. Then we are also taught not to take medicines carelessly, not like Aji who is too obsessed with losing weight but in the wrong way. In this film, Aji acts with animates and it is very good, although he was only a village boy, he was able to carry out his role well.

Overall, "Gendut" is an excellent short film. This film won first place in the national health day competition held by the Ministry of Health 2016. This is a worthwhile short film to see.
